Patritti Puts Marion on the Map Following Award Wins

It has been a big few weeks at Patritti, with major accolades achieved for both the winery and individual wines.

With a career in wine that spans nearly 50 years, James Halliday is arguably Australia's best-known wine critic. Each year he publishes his definitive annual guide to Australian wine, the Halliday Australian Wine Companion. The 2019 edition was released on 2 August 2018 where Patritti was named in his Ten of the Best Value Wineries. Halliday says of Patritti:

Patritti has 10ha of grenache at Aldinga North, and 10ha of shiraz in Blewitt Springs. This two single vineyard wines on 96 points, the 2016 JPB Shiraz and 2016 Lot Three Shiraz, followed by three wines each on 95 points. In all, 11 of the 12 wines in this year's submission received the value rosette. Patritti isn't well known in the eastern states, and deserves a wider audience there.

The wines submitted to Halliday for tasting have achieved the following scores and accolades:

2016 Patritti JPB Limited Release Shiraz - 96 Points, "This has immense flavour, both fruit and oak-derived, and a raging churn of tannin to match...It's both full-on and neat at once."

2016 Patritti Lot Three Single Vineyard Shiraz - 96 Points, "It's packed with fruit and spread with tannin, and while $35 might not sound like a bargain basement price if it had $100 written on it you wouldn't blink. It's saturated with fruit-and-oak flavour and incredibly well structured and finished."

2016 Patritti Section 181 Single Vineyard Grenache - 95 Points, "In short, it's a beautiful wine to spend time with, firm tannin completing a most impressive picture."

2017 Patritti Merchant Sauvignon Blanc - 95 Points, "The one-time conservative, low profile Patritti has gone to the other extreme with some of its labels, including this. A distraction perhaps, for this is a seriously good Adelaide Hills sauvignon blanc, full of luscious fruit that doesn't, however, go OTT."

2017 Patritti Merchant Pinot Grigio94 Points, "A real wine with intensity and length."

2017 Patritti Merchant Chardonnay92 Points, "Intensity of white peach flavour is impressive; kick of apple-like flavours continues the theme...a well-rounded feel."

2016 Patritti Merchant Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre (GSM) 94 Points, "Fresh and well formed. Ripper drinking."

2016 Patritti Merchant Cabernet Sauvignon96 Points, "Patritti does it again - a perfectly weighted medium-bodied cabernet that has elegance and persistence..."

2014 Patritti Saperavi93 Points, "Dense, impenetrable purple colour leads into a dense, sultry black lair of fruit, graphite and tannins..."

2015 Patritti Saperavi91 Points

2016 Patritti Old Gate Shiraz 94 Points, "It has firm, muscular tannin and a sound, satisfying finish. If rich reds are your preferred style, you can't go wrong here."

To top off the amazing scores, the 2017 Merchant Sauvignon Blanc received a second individual accolade, named in Halliday's Top-Rated Sauvignon Blancs.

Achieving multiple wines with scores above 90 points has ensured that Patritti retained its red five-star winery rating.

Earlier in July, the results for the Melbourne International Wine Competition were announced. This competition is the only international wine competition in the Pacific region where all the judges are real trade buyers, assessing the wine by its category and actual price. These judges are from the top liquor stores, restaurants and hotels in Australia.

The wines submitted to the competition achieved the following results:

2016 Patritti Merchant Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre (GSM)Double Gold Medal

2016 Patritti JPB Limited Release Shiraz - Gold Medal

2015 Patritti SaperaviGold Medal

On top of this, Patritti was awarded McLaren Vale Winery of the Year at the same competition, a major achievement given the large number of McLaren Vale wineries that submitted entries.

With every accolade received we have an opportunity to tell the Patritti story to a wide audience. As one of the oldest firms in the City of Marion our story is closely aligned with the area's development. Each time we tell our story, we also tell the story of Marion, acknowledging the impact our shared history and unique location has on our success.
