Nestled in the quiet suburbs of Adelaide lives a surprising site – a fully functional winery, Cellar Door and wine bar, with an incredible history spanning three generations. Founded in 1926 by Giovanni Patritti, Patritti is Adelaide’s only remaining 100% family owned, completely operational urban winery.
Joining the winemaking team this year is French-native Pauline Michael, the first female winemaker in the organisations almost 100-year history.
Hailing from Normandy, France and with a double degree in Viticulture and Oenology from the Montpellier SupAgro, Pauline’s first ever vintage was in the north of Spain, before moving to Australia in 2017. ‘I love wine because I love people! You create good memories around a nice bottle of wines shared with your loved ones.’
Pauline is delighted to join James Mungall, Senior Winemaker and third generation Patritti family member, alongside Ben Heide, Winemaker, who has been with the team for almost 20 years.
‘You can feel that people are passionate about the products and the family history,’ Pauline says of her decision to join the team. ‘Patritti is known in the industry to have beautiful vineyards. I’m excited to be involved in the making of so many different products, from still wines, to sparkling, fortified and juices.’
While its vineyards have spread to McLaren Vale and other regions in South Australia, Patritti’s home remains among the quiet neighbourhood streets of Dover Gardens, close to the metropolitan beaches of Adelaide.
With their 97th vintage kicking off this season and over 50,000 visitors annually to their Cellar Door and Cellar II wine bar, Patritti is one of the fastest growing wine brands in South Australia.
With an exciting new product launching this year and further expansion on the horizon, Patritti have their sights firmly fixed on the future.
