International Shiraz Day is celebrated on the 4th Thursday of July each year and is a tribute to one of the most widely appreciated red wine grapes – Shiraz.
Shiraz is one of our favourite varietals at Patritti, we are continuously striving to produce high-quality Shiraz that express the unique terroir of McLaren Vale.
When Patritti’s Marion vineyards were lost to urban sprawl in the 1950’s, a few high-quality acres of premium McLaren Vale soil were purchased at Blewitt Springs. This was to be the family’s new Shiraz vineyard and by 1969 twenty-five acres of Shiraz had been planted.
Our Shiraz portfolio is diverse and is a tribute to both the old vines that produce our McLaren Vale fruit and 97 years of continuous winemaking at Patritti.
2020 JPB Shiraz
We named this wine after our founder Giovanni (John) Patritti, one of the earliest Italians to settle in Australia in 1925. The label design is reminiscent of the earliest Patritti labels and features the original JPB logo. Trading as ‘John Patritti Brighton’ referring to the greater region of Adelaide where the winery is located, the demand for his wines steadily grew.
The 2020 vintage is intensely flavoured, well structured, yet amazingly soft and approachable. With flavours of red and blue fruits, alongside caramel and toasty oak notes. Whilst enjoyable now, this wine will cellar beautifully for decades to come.

2020 Lot Three Shiraz
The Lot Three Shiraz has an identity of its own with selected blocks in the vineyard handpicked at the optimum tannin and ripeness levels. With an average vine age of 50 years, the Lot Three Shiraz is a full bodied and fruit forward delight. Plum and blue fruit flavours work well with oak derived complexities of subtle coffee and dark chocolate. Drink now or cellar for 15+ years.

2020 Merchant Shiraz
Fruit selected from the estate’s Blewitt Springs vineyard was fermented in static fermenters on skins for seven days, with a small percentage of whole bunches. The wine is rich, mouth coating and round; with flavours of plum, raspberry, and cherry ripe.

NV Lavoro Sparkling Shiraz
A delightful cuvee blend of matured base wines is aged in French oak barrels. This premium sparkling wine shows an alluring dark garnet colour and a bouquet of rich, complex fruit. The palate is supported by structured tannins and understated sweetness. A refreshing sparkling that is perfect accompaniment to any festive event.

2018 Fortified Shiraz
The complexity and richness of McLaren Vale Shiraz makes is perfect for making fortified wines. A small parcel of premium fruit was selected to make this single vintage fortified. The palate is dark chocolate, rich plum and spice and will continue to develop complexity and flavour as it ages.
